Routine Care & Maintenance
Honed concrete is the premium finish for external concrete surfaces and is fast growing in popularity. Honed concrete is extremely durable and easy to maintain surface. It is difficult to judge the amount of cleaning and maintenance required for each individual floor, however, the following recommendations can be used as a guide.
Cleaning
Surfaces should be swept and hosed off once a week, or as required.
Do not use harsh or aggressive cleaners on your honed concrete floors as it will deteriorate the performance of the floor over time.
Spills & Stains
Our honed concrete floors are sealed to help resist spills and stains. This does not, however, mean that the concrete is stain proof and care should be taken to ensure all spills are wiped up and hosed off as soon as possible.
Stubborn deposits (i.e. dried food) should be removed using a non-scratch implement such as a wooden spatula.
Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and solvents as these may damage the surface of the concrete. Nail polish remover, bleach, oven cleaner, drain cleaner, permanent markers, and paint strippers are all examples of products that should not come into contact with the surface of the concrete.
Maintenance
Honed concrete is required to be resealed periodically, with expected resealing to occur 2-5 years after being completed initially. Resealing concrete is important as it helps to resist oils, grease, and general dirt pick-up.
Please feel free to contact us at Concrete Society to inspect your honed concrete in Perth to see if it is due for a reseal.
